Whilst we’re all waiting for a Canon 5D Mark III / Nikon D4 / Nikon D800, it seems that Guardian photographer and DSLR News Shooter, Dan Chung, has found something potentially even better…a 5 grand Alexa!
According to Chung, he discovered the Chinese made Kinefinity “Nestled in the corner of the massive BIRTV trade show in Beijing.” It is a PL mount digital cinema camera with a native 400 ISO Super 35mm sensor, that records 2K 12 bit RAW video (in DNG format) and 24 bit 48K audio, to dual removable SSDs.
As Chung points out, right now it is vapourware, but if, as Kinefinity suggest, the camera is released in six months time, with a price tag of $7000-$8000, it could be epic…
So now the question is, come March 2012, do I buy one…or wait for the 4K version?
