The Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2012

Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2012 (1 of 17).jpg

The Edinburgh Fringe is the world’s largest arts festival and one that I have always enjoyed, so once the Media Guardian Edinburgh International Television Festival had ended, I took the opportunity to stay in the city for a few days of fringe show going. Predictably, it wasn’t long before I’d found a burlesque event – the ‘Boom Boom Club’.  Although the venue and audience’s attire made me feel more like I was at a warehouse party circa 1989, than a nightclub circa 1959, there was no questioning the quality of the entertainment, which included burlesque scene stalwarts such as Dusty Limits and Kitty Bang BangContinue reading “The Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2012”

The Great British Tattoo Show 2012

The Great British Tattoo Show

Recently, I was invited to the Great British Tattoo Show 2012. Here are some highlights featuring the burlesque talents of Millie Dollar (who you may remember from The Toadlickers) & Beatrix Von Bourbon, compere Paul Sweeney, some top breakdancers, Cyanide Girls, Engineers of Desire, the eye popping Tattoo Awards…and assorted punters with tattoo needles stuck in various bodily parts.

If you like what you see, you might like to check out organiser, Skin Deep‘s, forthcoming events, Tattoo Jam, Manchester International Tattoo Show & Tattoo Freeze.

Licking Toads with Thomas Dolby.

A few months ago, Thomas Dolby invited me to direct his first music video of the 21st century!

The track, entitled ‘The Toadlickers’, is about a group of scientists who live in the hills of Snowdonia, get high licking toads, get the munchies and come out at night to raid sweetshops.

Given the song’s banjo ‘n’ fiddle heavy roots Americana, some might see it as something of a radical departure for him, but I beg to differ! Infectious melodies…surreal humour…mad scientists…impeccable production…it’s classic Dolby!

Since Thomas has always had a penchant for pushing the envelope, it seemed only fitting to shoot the video with the latest cutting edge technology, which is why I chose Canon EOS 5D Mark IIs. I’ll be posting more about this soon. In the meantime…enjoy!
