Basically Johnny Moped Screening at KOKO

Recently I attended Sheffield DocFest, which I shall be publishing a piece about soon. In the meantime, what you need to know is that my favourite film of the festival, ‘Basically Johnny Moped’, has its London premiere at KOKO, on Thursday 19th September. It will be an extra special event as the subject of the film, proto punks, The Johnny Moped band, whose various lineups included Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders and Captain Sensible of The Damned, will be reforming and playing a gig straight after the film…and Captain Sensible will be joining them on stage! If you want to attend I’d recommend booking now, via this link, as the event is guaranteed to be a sell out. If you can’t make it, you can pre-order the DVD and buy other Johnny Moped goodies from the Basically Johnny Moped web site.

Last, but not least, it was the first Sony’s handheld camera to record to solid state cards. All of this should have made it the ideal ‘small’ camera for long form documentaries. However, it had one fatal flaw, namely it could only record internally at 35Mb/s 4:2:0, meaning it was not ‘broadcast quality’ (as defined by the EBU or BBC). Continue reading “Sony PMW-200”
