Apple has just announced that the much anticipated new version of its industry standard editing software, ‘Final Cut Pro X’, is available for download now, from the Mac® App Store™, for $299.99.
Completely rebuilt from the ground up as a multi-threaded, GPU accelerated, native 64-bit application that, for the first time, can make use of all the processors and memory in your machine, it supports background rendering, resolutions up to 4K and a ColorSync-managed colour pipeline that ensures consistent colour from import to output.
However, it’s not merely souped up… The ‘Magnetic Timeline’, which locks audio to video and dynamically moves clips on the timeline as you edit, redefines the computer non linear editing paradigm (and makes it impossible to mess up). Other headline features include ‘Auditions’, which lets you collect multiple alternative shots and/or different versions of the same shot (with effects, colour corrections, etc.) at a single location on the timeline for easy comparison; ‘Content Auto-Analysis’, which scans your media on import, tags it with searchable metadata and dynamically organises it into content based ‘Smart Collections’; built in image stabilisation and rolling shutter correction; built in colour correction; keyframe free animation; integrated keyframeless audio editing with support for Audio Units and over 100 bundled effects, 40 of which come from Logic Studio… and for all the HDSLR heads, not just native support of HDSLRS, but automatic double sound sync!
And if that’s not enough, Apple also announced the simultaneous availability of new versions of Motion and Compressor (which seamlessly integrate with Final Cut Pro X)…for just $49.99 a piece.
I look forward to bringing you my hands on experience soon. In the meantime, full details of Final Cut Pro X, Motion 5 and Compressor 4 are available on the Apple Final Cut Pro microsite.
